Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero - Roero Riserva Vigna Sant'Anna - DOCG - BIO

The Roero DOCG Riserva Vigna Sant'Anna is made from 100% Nebbiolo, a native Piedmont grape variety, from one historic vineyard in the municipality of Monteu Roero. The planting dates back to 1954 and was realized at the time by grandfather Giovanni Porello. The vineyard is still managed according to the original principles: steep slopes, narrow rows and only manual operations. The vineyard is located on a bricco at 350 meters above sea level, with full southern exposure and a sandy and calcareous soil with alkaline pH, typical of Roero. The yield is deliberately very limited to about 3,000 kg of grapes, equivalent to about 4,000 bottles, to ensure concentration and authenticity. The harvest takes place in early October and is done entirely by hand in small crates. Fermentation takes place without the addition of selected yeasts, with a very long skin soaking of about 40 days and submerged hat. Aging takes place in large 30 hectoliter wooden barrels for 24 months. The wine is bottled unfiltered. It is a Roero of great structure and depth, with pronounced storage potential.

APPEARANCE: Ruby red with garnet reflections that deepen with aging.

SCENT: Intense and refined, with aromas of ripe fruit, rose and blackberry. With aging, notes of vanilla, cocoa and spice develop.

TASTE: Elegant and structured, with a clear and fresh tannic structure. Mineral tension, harmony and a long, lingering finish with great aging potential.

PRODUCTION: Red wine - Roero DOCG Riserva
ALCOHOL: 14.5%
SERVING TEMPERATURE: 16-18 °C

Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero

“Our estate is our family” In the heart of Roero – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – in Vezza d’Alba, Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero has been producing wines since 1950. On these ancient hills, Daniela’s parents bought Cascina Valmenera and merged the vineyards of Monteu Roero to start their wine production. Their quality wine production began in 1970 with the establishment of the winery, which today is run by Daniela and her husband Luigi. For Daniela and Luigi, winemaking in Roero means producing only monocépage wines. When tasting, each sip of Roero wine represents its unique terroir – the result of millions of years of natural evolution. This is the winemaking philosophy of Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero. Our white wines ferment in stainless steel tanks until bottling, which takes place after 5 to 6 months. Our red wines ferment with a long maceration of 30 to 40 days. After malolactic fermentation, part of the wine is raised in wood: Roero Sant’Anna ages two years in wood, Nebbiolo d’Alba ages 6 to 8 months in barriques of second passage and Barbera d’Alba comes to rest in wood for 6 months. Area: Roero is more than just vineyards and wines – the rich and biodiverse soil is a unique heritage of Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero. Daniela and Luigi produce Roero DOCG wines and Spumante on a piece of land that emerged from the sea more than 3 million years ago and still preserves the great, unique geological richness of the Roero terroir. Our wines In the Roero area we grow two of the noblest indigenous grape varieties – Nebbiolo and Arneis – with which we produce wines such as Roero and Roero Arneis, both awarded the highest DOCG classification. Since 2009, Antica Cascina dei Conti di Roero has also been producing sparkling wines using the traditional method and supporting The Green Experience project, which promotes sustainable viticulture by applying natural techniques and avoiding herbicides and chemical fertilizers.
